Mark 4: 30- 32
He also said, “With what can you compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” NRSV

Many years ago, Mahatma Gandhi said we should be the change we want to see in the world. He began making his own change in his corner of the world and it began a ripple effect. It is useless for all human beings to sit and point to others or some entity to effect changes. Sometimes it begins with a little action from some unassuming person. We can all become agents of change. The scriptures say the kingdom of God is within us and as such we can do all things with God working in us. Jesus used the parable of the mustard seed which, though being a tiny seed, grows large and provides shade for the birds. Each of us, regardless of our social status or material possessions or lack thereof, can make a difference. Start with the one in the mirror.
