Mark 4: 10-12
When he was alone, those who were around him along with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside, everything comes in parables; in that order they may indeed look, but not perceive, and may indeed listen but not understand; so that they may turn again and be forgiven NRSV
There is a saying in my country which goes, ‘Parson christen him pickney fus’. Now we know that as children of God we get special privileges being the first in line to receive God’s bounty. Notice Jesus waited until he was alone with his special group of twelve and some select others before he divulged crucial information. This lets his followers know that they do not have to go to extremes like outsiders. Those within the inner circle have special privileges. When you are royalty you operate within the confidence that your state has afforded you and so it is with the children of God. Hold your head high and walk with confidence because the earth is the LORD’s but you, being joint heirs with Jesus, are poised to inherit it.
