Luke 17: 1
Jesus said to his disciples, “Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to anyone by whom they come! It would be better for you if a millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea than for you to cause one of these little ones to stumble. NRSV
Jesus is saying that we should not be one of those persons responsible for leading others astray. This tells us that as believers and as people who profess to be followers of Christ we have a bounden duty to live above reproach as far as is possible. Note what Jesus said it would have been a better fate if we caused others to lose their way. No human being is an island. We are all accountable to someone-whether or not we want to believe it and I am sure it shatters this individualistic tendency of this modern day and age. Those cultures that work in the collective do so much better at human relationships than those that run amok in individualism. Remember your responsibility and act accordingly. God is watching us!
