`1 John 3: 18

Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. NRSV

The scriptures admonish us to love one another and show our love in tangible ways. You would think that as people who profess to be children of God, love would come naturally to us, but we have our struggles and issues just as much as anyone else. So the question remains, what then is missing? I do not know that I have the answer but I continue to look to Jesus. I admire Jesus the man. I marvel that at the young age of 33 he began his ministry; he was such a revolutionary and left a wonderful legacy for human kind. I long to be like Jesus- to love and serve the way he did. Jesus left a perfect example for us. He always stayed in contact with the Father. We would do well to do the same. The song writer says:
‘Jesus went upon a mount to commune himself with God; he prayed. He prayed. Jesus prayed unto his Father all the way. From the manger to the cross, not a moment Jesus lost. Jesus prayed unto his Father all the way.’
Because Jesus never disengaged himself from the Father, he was able to overcome even in his weakest moments such as when he was tempted and when he asked for ‘this cup to be removed.’ Let us stay connected to God through daily prayer, Bible study and communion. As the saying goes, ‘show me your company and I’ll tell you who you are’, if we keep company with God after a time we will begin to look and sound like Him. After a while we will not only show love but we begin to become this communicable attribute of God-love.
