John 15: 26-27
When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. NRSV
The Holy Spirit is a person and one of his functions is to teach us and to reveal truths to us. Jesus said that the Spirit works in tandem with him and God the Father. We will know the Spirit of God because there will be a confirmation. Once there has been a confirmation- once the Spirit has borne witness of being sent from God and there is confirmation within us, we too, are expected to testify. If we have truly been with Jesus, not only our lips but our lives will confirm that we are children of God. The believer’s constant prayer should be, “Lord, keep me close to you. Let me always seek to grow in goodness day by day and retain this love of yours”. We should never leave God. We should always seek to know more and understand more. Whenever the temptation comes to be elsewhere but in God’s presence, we should resist it with all that we know. Who cares about us and wishes us well in this world and in our eternal salvation? The resounding response is: God. So, this day, let us resolve listen to the Spirit of Truth and to obey in all that he has commissioned us to do.
