Again he went away for the second time and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. NRSV
Growing up, I remember my mother using the expression, ‘uneasy lies the head that wears a crown’. The truth is, while others are at ease the one with the charge set on him or her cannot rest easy. No-one could imagine how Christ the man felt with such a responsibility and especially at that hour approaching his arrest. Jesus knew that he would die a most dishonorable death, for death on the cross was not only a humiliating way to die but history records it to be excruciatingly painful. The divinity in Jesus knew the enormity of the responsibility to die for the sins of the world. I am glad he did! Andrae Crouch puts it beautifully:
